There are five species of turtles in South African waters. The two most common turtles ,appearing at the beaches of Sodwana Bay Marine Reserve to lay eggs, are the leatherback and loggerhead turtles. The hawksbill turtle occur only as a visitor to our coast. The green and olive ridley turtles are seldom seen. Loggerhead turtles are the most common.

The sea star has on closer inspection a beautiful armour Each leg of the sea star is a fully functional brain on itself. The sea star is therefore not a brainless marine animal.
